Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Results and discussion

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
not applicable
Executive summary:

The following bioaccumulation factors for 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine (DCB) had been derived:

Green algae (Chlorella fusca var. vacuolata): 24 h, 0.05 mg/L: BAF = 940 (related to fresh weight);

Leucisus idus melanotus: 3 d, 0.05 mg/L: BAF = 610 (related to fresh weight);

Lepomis macrochirus: flow through, equilibrium between uptake and elimination after 96 to 168 hours:

Equilibrium-BAF (5 µg/L): 495

Equilibrium-BAF (100 µg/L): 507

Elimination of DCB from the fish in fresh water (flow through) was fast in the first 24 hours (75 -80%), but then very slow.

For activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant a BAF after 5 days of contact of 3100 (in relation to dry weight) had been found.
