Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Activated sludge respiration inhibition 3hr EC50 value of >1000 mg/l (nominal) and NOEC of >= 1000 mg/l (nominal) for a structurally-related substance

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Microorganism toxicity data from a non-standard oxygen consumption study with Pseudomonas putida is available for trimethoxy(2-methylpropyl)silane. The test procedure was in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail and in compliance with GLP, with acceptable restrictions. The restrictions were that a reference substance was not used to check the sensitivity of the microorganisms, and an emulsifier was used which could have effected the results.

Therefore, this study is used as supporting data.

Good quality data for the analogous substance trimethoxy(1,1,2-trimethylpropyl)silane (CAS 142877-45-0), have been read across for the Key study. Trimethoxy(2-methylpropyl)silane and trimethoxy(1,1,2-trimethylpropyl)silane hydrolyse to structurally-related silanol hydrolysis products,2-methylpropylsilanetriol and1,1,2-trimethylpropylsilanetriol, respectively; the other hydrolysis product being methanol. Methanol does not have adverse effects on microorganisms.

Trimethoxy(2-methylpropyl)silane and trimethoxy(1,1,2-trimethylpropyl)silane are within an analogue group of substances that exhibit no evidence of significant toxicity to microorganisms

It is therefore considered valid to read-across the results for trimethoxy(1,1,2-trimethylpropyl)silane to fill the data gap for the registered substance. Additional information is given in a supporting report (PFA, 2013j) attached in Section 13 of the IUCLID 5 dossier.

A 3hr EC50 value of >1000 mg/l (nominal) and NOEC of1000 mg/l (nominal) were determined for trimethoxy(1,1,2-trimethylpropyl)silane.

The study is considered to be reliability 1 (reliable without restrictions); the read across of the result is considered to be reliability 2 (reliable with restrictions).
