Description of key information

Biodegradation in water, screening tests: 36 - 47% in 28 d (CO2 evolution)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Biodegradation rates of 36% in 28 days (9.97 mg/l) and 47% in 28 days (20.1 mg/l) were determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol, and in compliance with GLP. Trimethoxy(2-methylpropyl)silane hydrolyses rapidly in water, to produce methanol, which is readily biodegradable .The biodegradation observed in the test is attributable to the biodegradation of the methanol hydrolysis product. No significant biodegradation is expected for the silanol hydrolysis product.
