Description of key information

According to the EU A.16 test results, solid BTMAC is considered ‘not self-ignitable’. No self-ignition temperature was determined.
According to UN N.4 test results, solid BTMAC should not be classified as a self-heating substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two tests were carried out to determine the self-heating properties (EU A.16 and UN N.4)

EU A.16 test results:

No exothermic effect of the test substance was observed in the temperature range of 23°C to 401°C. It demonstrated that the test substance is not self-ignitable. Thus, no self-ignition temperature can be reported.

After the experiment, the test substance had turned into a black/brown charred residue. It indicated that the test substance had decomposed and/or reacted during the experiment.

UN N.4 test results (to determine classification):

Benzyltrimethylammonium chloride should not be classified as a self-heating substance.
