2 -isocyanatoethyl methacrylate is ready biodegradable. The potential of the substance to persist in the environment is thus not given. Abiotic degradation like hydrolysis is below 10 minutes at different conditions (pH 4, 7 and 9). The hydrolysis productes of 2 -isocyanatoethyl methacrylate were identified as 2-aminoethyl methacrylate and N,N'-[2-(2 -methyl-2-propenoic acid) ethyl ester] urea. Due to the low Kow ≤ 3 of the substance and its degradation products bioaccumulation and adsorption to soil particles is not expected.
