Details on sampling:
- Concentrations: The degradation products were analysed in samples of all freshly prepared test solutions and control solutions at test start, and from pooled replicates per test concentration and controls at test end. The samples were analysed immediately after sampling.
- Sampling method: The samples were taken by the staff of the analytical laboratory and transferred to the analytical laboratory for measurement without delay or further storage.
- Sample storage conditions before analysis: Duplicate samples were frozen and stored at 20°C.

PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)
- Method: A solution was prepared by dissolving 100.2 mg of the test item MOI in 1000 mL of copper-reduced dilution water and stirring for 2 h at 300 rpm. This solution formed the highest test concentration. The remaining test concentration solutions were prepared by a 50% dilution series with copper-reduced dilution water of the highest test concentration solution. The test solutions were freshly prepared immediately before the start of the test.
- Controls: The control test media was copper-reduced dilution water taken directly from the pipe immediately before the start of the test.

- Source: Juvenile daphnids were originally obtained from the German Federal Environmental Agency, Institute for Water, Soil, and Air Hygiene. Specimens used in the test were bred in the laboratory at Fraunhofer IME.
- Age at study initiation (mean and range, SD): 4 - 24 h

ACCLIMATION
- Acclimation conditions (same as test or not): The stock culture animals were held in batches of 30 - 50 adults at room temperature in ca. 1.8 L of dilution water for one week.
- Type and amount of food: The daphnids were fed daily with an algal suspension (Desmodesmus subspicatus) and Liquizell® (HOBBY). Algae growing in the log-phase were centrifuged and the pellet was re-suspended in a few mL of medium. Thirty millilitres of this suspension was given to 1 L of medium.

- Test concentrations: A non-GLP range-finding test was performed with the nominal loadings of 100 mg/L, 10 mg/L and 1.0 mg/L. Four replicates of the test organisms (five daphnids per replicate) were exposed to the test item for a period of 48 hours. No chemical analysis was performed.
- Results used to determine the conditions for the definitive study: Immobilisation of 10% and 100% was observed at the concentrations 10 and 100 mg/L, respectively.

The acute toxicity of 2 -isocyanatoethyl methacrylate (MOI) to invertebrates was tested in a study conducted by Showa Denko (2013), using daphnids (Daphnia magna) as test species. This static dose-response test was carried out according to the OECD-Guideline 202 under GLP-conditions over a period of 48 h. The nominal test concentrations used were 0, 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0 and 100 mg/L corresponding to mean measured concentrations of 0, 6.56, 13.0, 25.3, 52.4 and 113 mg/L. The resulting LC50 was >113 mg/L (geometric mean measured).
