The study performed in experimental laboratory (Dobberstein and Fölsing, 2009, Bruno Bock, RL1) dedicated to estimate the boiling point of the test material 3-mercaptopropionic acid has been chosen as a key study. Direct determination of boiling point by measuring at normal pressure was not possible, because of the decomposition of the test substance, which starts at ca. 185 ºC. The study reports boiling under decomposition at 210 -214 ºC. Attempts of measurement was carried out using a reflux distillation apparatus adapted from the description in OECD testing guidelines 103, dynamic method. Boiling with decomposition at 197 ºC reports also supporting study (Rampy, 1973, Dow).

The studies (Lide, 2000 and Lewis, 1977) report the boling point at the reduced pressure and the other study (Dobberstein and Fölsing, 2009, Bruno Bock, RL2) reports the boiling point from calculation (from Clausius Clapeyron equation, QSAR). Thus study of (Dobberstein and Fölsing, 2009, Bruno Bock, RL1) gives the most ample and most reliable information and serve as a key study.
