Biodegradation in water: screening test

The ready biodegradability of the test substance itself was examined according to ISO DIS 9439 (Ultimate Aerobic Biodegradability - Method by Analysis of Released Carbon Dioxide). The test substance was degraded by 80 - 90 % (CO2 evolution) and 90 – 100 % (DOC removal) after 28 days.

The ready biodegradability of the test item was further assessed using a read-across category approach based on grouping of substances. The surrogate test substances were found to be ready biodegradable and a weight of evidence approach was applied. Thus, the pentanols are considered as readily biodegradable.

Biodegradation in water and sediment

The substance is considered as readily biodegradable. Therefore, no further testing on biodegradation is required according to Annex IX (Paragraph 9.2.1, Column 2) of the REACh regulation 1907/2006.

Biodegradation in soil

The substance is considered as readily biodegradable. Therefore, no further testing on biodegradation is required according to Annex IX (Paragraph 9.2.1, Column 2) of the REACh regulation 1907/2006.
