Description of key information

The flash point of cyclohexane is -20°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
-20 °C

Additional information

The flash point of cyclohexane is -20°C. The CRC Handbook (Lide 2008) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. In addition, this is the key reference in the EU RAR (2004). The supporting study (Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006)) is also a peer reviewed handbook and reports a value of -18°C and supports the value reported in the key study.

The boiling point for cyclohexane (80.7 °C) in combination with this flash point (-20°C) indicates that this substance is a Category 2 flammable liquid (flash point <23°C, boiling point >35°C).
