Description of key information

The log Pow of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be 1.45 at 20°C (Veit, 1980).

In the key study (Veit, 1980), the partition coefficient of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined by the flask-shake method and the content in the water and octanol phase was determined by RP-HPLC.


1 mg/ml solutions of the test substance in water or octanol were equilibrated against the other solvent. After shaking the solution in closed tubes, both phases were separated by centrifugation at 27000 rpm for 30 min analysed. The partition coefficient of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be logPow = 1.45 at 20°C.
