Description of key information

The viscosity of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be 0.829 cP (centi-poises = mPa s) at 20°C and 0.775 cP at 25°C (Mumford, 1950).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Viscosity:
0.829 mPa · s (dynamic)
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

In the key study (Mumford, 1950), the viscosity of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined in small Ostwald-type viscometers conforming in general characteristics to the standads laid down in british Standard Specification No. 188 -1929, and calibrated with water and/or standard sugar solutions. The viscosity was determined at two temperatures (20 and 25°C). The means of at least two determinations, performed with different bottles were recorded for each temperature. The viscosity of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be 0.829 cP (centi-poises = mPa x s) at 20°C and 0.775 cP at 25°C.

The measured value is supported by the findings in a supporting study (Goelles, 1979), where a value of 0.831 mPa s at 20°C was determined.
