water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1991-07-11 - 1991-12-17
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
according to guideline
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
0.59 mg/L
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: pH not reported
Details on results:
The solubility result is quoted to two significant figures.

Centrifugation at different G values gave similar results demonstrating that clear solutions were obtained by centrifugation. Equilibration at 30.0 °C for different lengths of time also gave similar results indicating that true saturation was reached.

A comparison of the retention times of the substance in the reference solution with those of the substance in the sample solutions indicated that the identity of the test substance had not altered during the test. Hydrolysis products of the substance are, however, visible in the chromatograms of the sample solutions.

The substance is an extremely weak base with a pKa of 3.55. Therefore, the effect (if any) of pH in the pH range 5 to 9 on the water solubility of the substance may reasonably be assumed to be at most comparable with experimental error. Hence, at this relatively low level of solubility the variation of the determined solubility within the nine sampies will be larger than any possible pH dependency on the result.

Interpretation of results (migrated information): slightly soluble (0.1-100 mg/L)
The study is considered to be adequate and reliable.
Executive summary:

Water solubility at 25 °C in pure water: 0.59 mg/L.

Description of key information

Water solubility in pure water (Rodler, 25 °C): 0.59 mg/L.

Water solubility in buffered solutions (Kettner, 25 °C, pH 5.0): 0.54 mg/L

Water solubility in buffered solutions (Kettner, 25 °C, pH 7.0): 0.60 mg/L

Water solubility in buffered solutions (Kettner, 25 °C, pH 9.0): 0.47 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
0.59 mg/L
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Two guideline studies are available. Both are considered to be reliable and adequate. The study with pure water is considered more relevant, and is carried forward for use in risk assessment, classification and labelling.
