Description of key information

PNEC for bethic organisms can be calculated applying the equilibrium partitioning method using a Kpsed or Kdsed of 14.4 L/kg which leads to a PNEC of 36 mg a.i./kg dw .

Additional information

For 1 -methyl piperazine a mean Kd of 14.4 L/kg as read across from piperazine is used to predict the partitioning to soil, sediment and suspended sediment for risk assessment purposes. For the partitioning to sludge which mainly consists of organic matter a Koc of 721.67 L/kg may be used. The PNEC sediment is calculated using the equilibrium paritioning method as no short or long-term benthic test data is available for 1 -methylpiperazine.

PNEC sediment based on EPM

In the absence of measured data the PNECsedcan be provisionally calculated using the equilibrium partitioning method (EPM). According to the TGD this method uses the PNECaquaticand the sediment/water partitioning coefficient as inputs.

The PNECsedis then calculated using the equations detailed in the TGD (2003):

 PNECsed                         =   Ksusp-water* PNECaquatic* 1000 * 1 / RHOsusp

Where:      

PNECaquatic   =      2 mg/L

Ksusp-water              =      4.5 m3/m3

RHOsusp                =      1150 kg/m3(TGD, equ. 18)
