Additional information

Testing for toxicity to sediment organisms is not considered necessary because:

- The substance hydrolyses rapidly and its hydrolysis products have a log Kow of <<5, therefore, partitioning to the sediment compartment is expected to be minimal.

- The substance is used under highly controlled conditions and, therefore, exposure of sediment is low.

- PNECsediment(freshwater and marine) for the silanol hydrolysis product, trimethysilanol, has been calculated from PNECaquatic(freshwater and marine) on the basis of the equilibrium partitioning method and the risk characterisation ratios (RCRs) based on PNECsediment is <1 (see Section 10 of the CSR).

- Ammonia does not accumulate in sediment (EA 2007) and the concentrations in sediment resulting from use of HMDZ are minimal compared to the natural background and other anthropogenic sources (see Section 9 of the CSR).
