Description of key information

Bioaccumulation: terrestrial: Low potential for bioaccumulation

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance hydrolyses very rapidly to trimethylsilanol and ammonia. Trimethylsilanol and ammonia havelow log Kow values (<3) and thus have low potential for bioaccumulation.

Ammonia enters the nitrogen cycle and is not expected to bioaccumulate.

Although ammonia is assimilated by aquatic plants for use as a nitrogen source, its bioaccumulation in biota is not important. (Environment Agency, 2007).

Environment Agency, 2007. Proposed EQS for Water Framework Directive Annex VIII substances: ammonia (un-ionised).
