Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Bioaccumulation: Low potential for bioaccumulation due to the very rapid hydrolysis in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance hydrolyses very rapidly (half-life <<1 minute at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 and 25°C) to form trimethylsilanol and ammonia. Trimethylsilanol and ammonia have low log Kow values (<3) and thus have low potential for bioaccumulation and the requirement for testing is waived.

Ammonia enters the nitrogen cycle and is not expected to bioaccumulate. Although ammonia is assimilated by aquatic plants for use as a nitrogen source, its bioaccumulation in biota is not important. (Environment Agency, 2007).
