Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
6-13 Jan 1999
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.7200 (Melting Point / Melting Range)
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Melting / freezing pt.:
39.5 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 013 hPa

Results:
Preliminary tests showed that the melting point of the sample was at about 44-45 °C. In the 20-80 °C range, the melting point was determined as the mean of two onset temperatures of the endothermic process corresponding to the beginning of the solid/liquid transition phase: 39.9 and 39.0 °C.

The melting point of the purified test material was also measured and it was as expected slightly higher (ca. 44 °C).

Description of key information

39.5 °C at ambient pressure (OECD 102, EU A.1, EPA OPPTS 830.7200)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
39.5 °C

Additional information

The melting point of the substance (technical grade) was determined using DSC method. The value obtained for a purified substance was slightly higher: 44.1 °C.
