Description of key information

According to theoretical considerations based on chemical structure, dimethyl terephthalate does not to possess explosive or oxidising properties. Dimethyl terephthalate is unlikely to undergo rapid decomposition accompanied by the evolution of gases or release of heat and therefore does not present a risk of explosion.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Based on chemical structure, terephthalic acid does not contain any of the groups associated with explosive properties. Dimethyl terephthalate is not currently classified for transport as an explosive or oxidising substance. Dimethyl terephthalate is predicted not to possess explosive or oxidising properties. DMT is unlikely to undergo rapid decomposition accompanied by the evolution of gases or release of heat and therefore does not present a risk of explosion.

The test material is not classified according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC.
