Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting range of 5-Amino-o-cresol was 433.2 - 434.3 K (160.0 -161.1°C) as determined by capillary method (OECD 102). The temperature of decomposition is >= 433.2 K (160°C).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
160 °C

Additional information

The melting point of 5-Amino-o-cresol was evaluated by following the OECD 102 Guideline (Melting point / Melting Range) method and the GLP guidelines.

Determination of the melting point/melting range was performed with a capillary tube in a liquid bath apparatus, with silicon oil as liquid. The apparatus was heated to 423 K (150°C) before the capillary was placed into the apparatus. From then on, and throughout the actual melting, the temperature rise was adjusted to a maximum of 1 K/min. The temperature was recorded at the beginning of the melting and at the final stage. The temperature at which degradation started was recorded.

 The melting range of 5-Amino-o-cresol was 433.2 - 434.3 K (160.0 -161.1°C) as determined by capillary method (OECD 102). The test material turned from beige-brown to brown. The temperature of decomposition is>= 433.2 K (160°C).
