EC number: 294-409-3
CAS number: 91722-09-7
Substance formed during processing of liquid steel or during production of iron castings. Consists primarily of fused silicates and trace elements as oxides as well as trace of alloying elements.
Under standard conditions, slags are solid. At temperatures of > 1000 °C viscosity may decreaseABS at 1600 °C: 250 mPa s (dynamic)
Ferrous slags resemble natural stones and are solid at ambient
temperatures. Data for molten ferrous slags are not relevant at ambient
Typical slags tested at 1100 to 1400 °C had a viscosity of 150 - 1500 cP
(Krajewski and Krueger 1984).
