Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The environmental profile of Isotianil is evaluated on the basis of short-term tests with species of three different trophic levels (algae, invertebrate, fish). Aquatic organisms did not show any effects up to the limit of the water solubility of the substance (< 1 mg/L) in short-term tests with fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae (LC50/EC50 > 1 mg/L, nominal).

Same observations are be reported for microorganisms, as no effects on respiration rate were observed after 3 h (EC50 > 1000 mg/L, nominal) in a respiration inhibition test with activated sludge. As no toxicological effects on microorganisms are expected up to the water solubility for Isotianil, a disturbance in the biodegradation process of a sewage treatment plant is not anticipated.

According to Annex IX, column 2(9.1) of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, long-term aquatic toxicity testing shall be proposed only, if the chemical safety assessment (according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006) triggers further action in case the substance or the preparation meets the criteria for classification as dangerous according to Directive 67/548/EEC or Directive 1999/45/EC or is assessed to be a PBT or vPvB. The hazard assessment of this substance reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous for the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance. Therefore additional long-term toxicity tests on aquatic organisms are not propsed.
