Description of key information

Xanthates decompose before melting so testing is scientifically unjustified.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
260 °C

Additional information

This substance decomposes before melting. The results of the study conducted with the analogue substance (potassium O-isobutyl dithiocarbonate) are used as a WoE in CSA. Target substance is expected to behave in a same way as the analogue xanthate, decompose before melting.

The analogue substance (potassium O-isobutyl dithiocarbonate) has a decomposition temperature of 250-265 °C and a melting temperature 260-270 °C. The key for CSA was obtained from the results of this analogue substance (Kirk-Othmer 1984).
