Additional information

There is no biodegradation study for methacrylic anhydride, but because of the short half-life in water (25.5 min at pH 7), which is much faster than biodegradation, the respective study for the hydrolysis product, methcrylic acid, may be used for the assessment.

Methacrylic acid was degraded by 86 % after 28 days in an OECD 301D biodegradation screening test in water (Closed bottle test) and passed the ten day window. Therefore methacrylic anhydride is considered to be readily biodegradable as well as methacrylic acid.
