Additional information

Based on the available data on its physical and chemical properties, methyl salicylate is an organic colourless to slightly yellow liquid with a melting point of approximately -8.6°C, a boiling point of 221°C at standard pressure and a relative density of around 1.18 at 25°C.

It is considered to be a moderate volatile substance with a vapour pressure of 13 Pa at 20°C. It has a viscosity of 1.535 mPa.s at 25°C.

It is considered as soluble in water based on a water solubility of 625 mg/L at 30°C and to have a low potential for bioaccumulation based on available logKow values between 1.45 and 2.98.

Besides, methyl salicylate has been shown to be non flammable based on its flash point of 95.5°C and it has an auto-ignition temperature around 450°C.

Based on its chemical structure, methyl salicylate is NOT expected to be explosive neither to have oxidising properties.
