24 h after administration damages of the lung were observed (no further comments). The maximal tissue concentration of the substance was reached 1 - 2 h after application and decreased rapidly. The injections phthalide caused considerable depletion of pulmonary GSH (reduced glutathione) at 12 h after the administration of the compound. These results suggested that reactive metabolites such as epoxides were produced and interacted with GSH.
