Discussion

The determinations were performed under nitrogen atmospheres. This was to ensure that if any decomposition was observed, this was probably thermal and not oxidative.

To aid in DSC interpretation a visual assessment was performed using metal block apparatus. The test material was observed to bubble from approximately 220°C. The test material was observed to change to a light brown colour from approximately 280°C. This bubbling and colour change was indicative of boiling with decomposition.

Conclusions:
The test material decomposed from approximately 539 +/- 0.5K prior to boiling (101.49kPa).
Executive summary:

Method

The determination was carried out in a GLP-compliant study by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) using the procedure specified in ASTM E537-86, Methods A.2 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).

Results

The test material decomposed from approximately 539 +/- 0.5K prior to boiling (101.42kPa).

Description of key information

The test material decomposed from approximately 539 ± 0.5 K prior to boiling (101.42kPa) (EU Method A.2).
