Description of key information

Endpoint waived due to availability of a 21 -day OECD 211 daphnia reproduction study.

Two acute toxicity studies with daphnia are available both indicating an LC50 > 100 mg/L. The key study (Ewell, 1986) was a static 96 hour study performed according to a protocol similar to OECD 202. No analytics were included. The results were confirmed by a 48h study (Anderson 1946) indicating a 48 h EC50 of 650 mg/L.

In view of the high water solubility it is expected that measured concentrations would not deviate significantly from nominal values.

However, in the recently performed algae study (Migchielsen 2010), the test concentrations decreased significantly during the 96 hour study period. Therefore it cannot be exluded that a similar phenonomen would have been seen in the static study of Ewell (1986) if measured. In a flow-through fish study (Geiger, 1987) an LC50 >> 100 mg/L is derived, which is an indication that test concentrations can be maintained properly. Based on these considerations the absence of measured data is considered not to influence the derivation of the EC50.
