The test substance is readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions (Richterich, 1989; Kravetz, 1991). The substance is sucessfully used as positive control substance in biodegradation testing. Under anaerobic conditions the substance degrades rapidly to CO2 and methane (Birch, 1989).

As the substance is readily biodegradable, tests on degradation in water-sediment systems and in soil can be waived based on the criteria (rapid biodegradation) as indicated in column 2 (REACH Annex IX section 9.2.1.2 and 9.2.1.3).
