Ready biodegradability of Benzoguanamine was tested in an OECD 301E and an OECD 301C screening study. In both studies only minor or no degradation was observed. In addition, the prediction on biodegradability using the BIOWIN QSAR models showed that Benzoguanamine is not readily biodegradable. However, an ultimate degradation within a timeframe of weeks to months was estimated.

As the freshwater compartment was identified as the only compartment of concern in the distribution modelling as well as the assessment of the identified uses showed no risk for the other environmental compartments only a simulation study for the surface water was proposed.

The study was performed at 12 °C showing no relevant degradation of Benzoguanamine in the timeframe of 60 days.

Based on the available information on the biodegradability of Benzoguanamine the substance is considered to fulfil the “very persistent” criteria of Annex XIII.
