Description of key information

o-Toluidine is not corrosive to metal.

Additional information

The metal corrosivity was determined according to UNECE "Manual of Tests and Criteria", Part III, Section 37a with p-toluidine. For the carbon steel material no. 1.0037 as well as for aluminum material no. 3.4365 corrosion rates < 0.01 mm/a were determined. In addition the coupons did not show any local corrosion indications. According to UNECE 37.4.1 p-toluidine has to be considered as none-corrosive.

The metal corrosivity of o-toluidine is covered in a reach a cross approach from p-toluidine as p-toluidine is a stronger base than o-toluidine. Therefore it has to be concluded that o-toluidine will not be corrosive to metals either.

Justification for classification or non-classification

o-Toluidine is not corrosive to metal, and no classification according to both Directive 67/548/EEC and GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008) is required.
