For various fish species short term toxicity tests are available, with LC50 (96h) values ranging from 82.5 to 151 mg/l.
The most sensitive value was determined by Hermens 1984: The toxicity to fish was performed with a method which was in most parts equivalent to the OECD guideline 204 (Fish, prolonged toxicity test). A 14day-LC50 of 81.3 mg/L was determined on Poecilia reticulata. It is not clear whether analytical monitoring was performed, but the study was conducted under semi-staic conditions, and revealed the most sensitive value on fish. In addition further studies with analytical monitoring indicated that the substance was stable in water, constant exposure concentrations over the test duration were assumed.
In an acute test performed with Oryzias latipes according to OECD TG 203 a 96h-LC50 of 151 mg/L was obtained. With Leucisus idus according to DIN 38412 part 15 a 96 h-LC50 of 82.5 mg/l was observed and a 48 h-LC50 of 117 mg/L according to method DEV L15. Additionally a prolonged toxicity test to Oryzias latipes according to OECD 204 is available which revealed a 21 d-LC50 value >100 mg/L. According to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b, it is stated that only such studies can be regarded as long-term fish test, in which sensitive life-stages (juveniles, eggs, larvae) are exposed. Thus, tests performed according to OECD 204 (Fish, Prolonged Toxicity Test: 14-Day Study (OECD 1984)) or similar guidelines cannot be considered suitable long-term tests. They are, in effect, prolonged acute studies with fish mortality as the major endpoint examined.
Additionally, other studies are presented which are scored as not assignable due to missing original reports.
