Description of key information

With high probability there are no toxic effects in the range of the substances water solubility. However, if a emulsifier is used, the substance has harmful effects on aquatic invertebrates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a toxicity test on aquatic invertebrates conducted according to the German national industrial standard test guideline DIN 38412 part 11 the effects of 1 -(vinyloxy)octadecane were studied. In the test an emulsifier was used to artificially increase the bioavailability of the test substance in the medium. In that case a dose response was detected resulting in an EC50 value of 29 mg/L. However, this value is far above the substances water solubility and therefore it is considered that no effects would occur in the range of the test substances water solubility.
