Chromium trioxide is a non-flammable, dark red solid which exists in the form of deliquescent crystals, flakes or powder. The substance has a melting point of approximately 196 °C and decomposes at 250 °C to produce Cr2O3 and O2. It has a relative density of approximately 2.7 g/cm³ and is very soluble in water. The substance is not explosive, but is a strong oxidiser.
