Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Two studies are available investigating the effects of aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid (CAS No. 1758-73-2) to microorganisms. The key study investigated the effects on microorganisms in a biodegradation study according to OECD 301C under GLP conditions (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, 1991). The study was performed with a mixture of activated sludge from STP with freshwater from rivers and lakes, marine water and marine sediment. No inhibition of biodegradation was observed after 28 d. The test concentration from a biodegradation study which indicated that the test substance is readily biodegradable can be used to derive a NOEC for this endpoint as stated in the ECHA Guidance R.7b (ECHA, 2012). Therefore, the test item concentration of 100 mg/L can be used as NOEC value for the toxicity to activated sludge microorganisms. Thus a NOEC (28 d) of ≥ 100 mg/L resulted.
An additional study confirmed the low toxicity ofaminoiminomethanesulphinic acid to microorganisms (Coenen, 1988). The inhibition of cell multiplication was investigated in a study according to NEN 6509. Twelve concentrations up to 1000 mg/L (nominal) were tested. After incubation of 18 h a toxicity threshold value of 538 mg/L was derived . The toxicity threshold is not an accepted endpoint for the risk assessment but it indicated a low toxicity of the test substance to microorganisms.
