The test substance hydrolyses (half-life 6.5 hours, measured) to methanol and [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]silanetriol derivatives. The results from this study are likely to represent biodegradation of methanol, which is expected to biodegrade rapidly, rather than [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]silanetriol. This is selected as the key study as it was conducted according to a standard guideline and GLP, and was the most recent study.

There is a less reliable study available which suggests a much higher degradation, 90% in 7days. However, the source of inoculum is not stated in the study report, and it is possible that the bacteria were acclimated to the test substance.
