Description of key information

The melting point of 2-methylimidazole is 144°C at 1013.25 hPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
144 °C

Additional information

Several reliable literature sources report the melting point of 2 -methylimidazole to be between 142°C and 144°C at 1013 hPa. They are authoritative secondary sources or peer reviewed data bases and regarded to be reliable for 2 -methylimidazole.

A historic BASF study repoted the melting point of 2 -methylimidazole to be 140.06 °C.

The value from HSDB which is a peer reviewed data base was chosen as key parameter for the melting point.
