Description of key information

2,3-Epoxypropyl neodecanoate was evaluated for ready biodegradability in O.E.C.D. Test Guideline 301 D Closed Bottle Test and 301 F Manometric Respirometry Tests. The level of biodegradation of the test substance under the conditions of these two tests was 7 - 11.6% after 28 days. In an O.E.C.D. Testing Guideline 302 A study for inherent biodegradability, 2,3-epoxypropyl neodecanoate was degraded up to a level 68% +/- 5% over days 22 - 36 of the study. The test substance, 2,3 -epoxypropyl neodecanoate was evaluated for biodegradation potential in an O.E.C.D. test guideline no. 302C "Inherent Biodegradability; Modified MITT (II) Test". The mean percent of biodegradation over the 28 -day contact period was -1%.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

Based on the results of these two O.E.C.D. Test Guideline readily biodegradation studies, 2,3 -epoxypropyl neodecanoate is not readily biodegradable. However, 2,3 -epoxypropyl neodecanoate is both inherently and ultimately biodegradable under the conditions of an O.E.C.D. Testing Guideline 302 A, "Inherent Biodegradability: Modified SCAS Test". In a second test for inherent biodegradability, the O.E.C.D. test guideline no. 302C "Inherent Biodegradability; Modified MITT (II) Test", the mean percent of biodegradation over the 28 -day contact period was -1%. Therefore, based upon the weight-of-evidence, 2,3 -epoxypropyl neodecanoate does not biodegrade.
