Flash point (hexamethyldisiloxane): -6°C (DIN 51755)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
-6 °C

Additional information

Four reliable closed cup flash point values are available for the substance. In the key study, a flash point value of -6°C was determined for the substance using a relevant test method. The result is considered to be reliable. Other reliable flash point values of -5°C, 4°C and 1°C were also determined for the substance. An open-cup value of <79°C was also reported.

In other secondary sources to which reliability could not be assigned, flash point values of -3°C, -6°C and -30°C were reported for the substance.

Variations in the flash point may be due to differences in purity of the test substances and variations in the test method. Where purity is available in the source documents it is >97%. The key study is selected as the study with the lowest flash point using a conservative approach.

A flash point of -6°C and a measured boiling point of 100.5°C, indicate that the substance should be classified as a highly flammable liquid according to the criteria of EC Regulation 1272/2008.
