Description of key information

Furfural can cause exothermic and explosive reactions in contact with strong acids or alkaline substances. At elevated temperatures, a risk for fire exists. According to CLP guidelines (but not under previous DSD 67/548/EEC), classification as flammable is applicable. Depending on the temperature, the risk for fire may change into a risk for explosion at more elevated temperatures.
