Additional information

The effect of propionic acid on germination of Lactuca sativa seeds was investigated. The EC50 for inhibition of lettuce seed germination was 125.8 mg/L. The pH measured at the EC50 concentration was 5.75. [Reynolds, 1975].

The test substance is not supposed to be directly applied to soil. Further, the substance is readily biodegradable. For substances being considered as "readily“, it can be assumed that they will be completely biologically degraded within the STP process. Hence, an indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer is unlikely.
