In the Grewer oven test with the neat substance, no self-ignition is
observed. No exothermal reaction was observed up to 420°C since the
sample melted at around 260°C and flowed from the basket prior to
reaction with air.
The 1:1 mixture with kieselguhr showed a first exothermal
(decomposition) reaction at 260°C and a second one at 360°C, the latter
leading to a temperature increase to more than 650°C. At 260°C, sample
temperatures increase to approximately 440°C.
The self-ignition temperature is therefore given for the 1:1 mixture
In a screening test according to Grewer, the neat substance shows no
self-ignition and the 1:1 mixture with kieselguhr has a self-ignition
temperature of 260°C.
