The test method used a Traube stalagmometer. The principle of the method is to measure the weight of drops of a fluid falling from a capillary glass tube and thereby calculate the surface tension of the fluid. The weight of the falling drops can be determined by counting them.

Method

Four concentrations of solutions were prepared by diluting test substance in distilled water and the surface tension of each dilution measured. The concentrations assessed were: 0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 g/L.
