Executive summary:

The Study was conducted according to guidelines OECD Guideline 210 and US EPA OPPTS 850.1400 to determine the effects of test substance on the early life stages (based on time to hatch, hatching success, time to swim-up, survival and growth) of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in an unaerated flow-through system for 88 days.

Treatments consisted of a dilution water control, solvent control (0.1 mL dimethylformamide/L) and five nominal test substance concentrations of 0.63, 1.3, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 mg a.s./L. The corresponding mean, measured concentrations of test substance were 0.60, 1.3, 2.4, 4.9 and 9.7 mg a.s./L. The observations showed that there were no treatment-related effects on hatching success, time to hatch, time for larvae to swim-up, post-hatch survival or post-hatch growth (total length, wet and dry weights).

Under the conditions of the test, the 88-day NOEC and LOEC for rainbow trout based on mean, measured concentrations of test substance and hatching success, time to hatch, time for larvae to swim-up, post-hatch survival or post-hatch growth (total length, wet and dry weights) were 9.7 mg a.s./L and >9.7 mg a.s./L, respectively. The MATC was calculated to be >9.7 mg a.s./L.

Description of key information

88-Day NOEC (Oncorhynchus mykiss, Rainbow trout) = 9.7 mg/L:OECD 210; Reliability = 1

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater fish:
9.7 mg/L

Additional information

The 88-day NOEC for rainbow trout, in the OECD guideline 210 test, based on mean, measured concentrations of test substance and hatching success, time to hatch, time for larvae to swim-up, post-hatch survival or post-hatch growth (total length, wet and dry weights) was 9.7 mg a.s./L.
