Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The assessment of PBT/vPvB properties has been done on the basis of the data available from the testing programme and considering the origin and composition of CarboNeXT.

Persistent assessment

No experimental data are available on biodegradation and hydrolysis of CarboNeXT, because the material is not soluble in water and its main components are plastics, not biodegradable, and paper. Therefore the material has to be considered not easily degradable. However, no environmental emissions of the material are foreseen: CarboNexT is produced, transported to the sites of use and there completely burnt, in a closed life-cycle.

According to requirements of REACH Regulation, CarboNeXT meets the criteria for the classification as “Persistent”.

Bioaccumulation assessment

No bioaccumulation assessment has been carried out, because no exposure of aquatic organisms is foreseen for CarboNeXT. Moreover it is a not easily degradable material, mainly composed of plastics and paper, whose particle dimension is expected to avoid absorption in living organisms.

On the basis of the above considerations, CarboNeXT is not expected to bioaccumulate.

Toxicity assessment

Main components of CarboNeXT are plastics and paper, deriving from not hazardous wastes. The L(E)C50values obtained in the ecotoxicity tests showed a lack of toxicity for aquatic organisms. Moreover the acute dermal toxicity test and the 28-day repeated toxicity test on rodents showed no effects related to the exposure to the material.

On the basis of the above consideration, it can be reasonably assumed that the substance does not meet the criteria of Annex XIII of Regulation EC 1907/2006 for the classification as “Toxic”.

Summary and overall conclusions on PBT or vPvB properties

CarboNeXT is a material, mainly composed of plastics and paper, deriving from not hazardous wastes. Although environmental emissions are not foreseen, the material, if released into the environment, is expected to be persistent (P), but it is not expected to be neither bioaccumulable (B) nor toxic (T). CarboNeXT is not considered to be neither a PBT nor a vPvB substance.

Emission characterization

Because the material does not fulfil the PBT and vPvB criteria, no emission characterisation is performed. Furthermore on the basis of the pattern of use, emissions are evaluated as negligible during all steps of life cycle of CarboNeXT.
