Study design
- Test type:
- not specified
- Water media type:
- freshwater
- Limit test:
- yes
- Total exposure duration:
- 48 h
- Post exposure observation period:
- After 24 and 48 hours from the beginning of the test, the immobilisation of the Daphnie has been evaluated verifying if the organisms, after light stirring of the vessels, were not capable to move in the following 15 seconds.
pH, dissolved oxygen and temperature of the assay environment have been measured at the beginning and at the end of the test (after 48 hours).
Quality criteria
- The immobilisation of control animals must not be higher than 10% at the end of the test.
- The concentration of dissolved oxygen in the vessels used in the assay ought to be higher than 3 mg/L for during the assay. However, in any case, the concentration of dissolved oxygen must not go below 2 mg/L.
- pH must not change for more than 1.5 units.
- The final concentration of the test substance must be included in a range corresponding to +/-20°C of the initial value, to be able to attribute obtained results to nominal concentration. Otherwise they have to be attributed to the final measured concentration.
Test conditions
- Hardness:
- between 140 and 250 mg CaCO3/L
- Test temperature:
- 21.2°C at beginning of the test and 21.0°C at the end of the test.
- pH:
- Approx. 7.55 at beginning of the test and approx. 8.46 at the end of the test.
- Dissolved oxygen:
- > 3 mg/L
- Nominal and measured concentrations:
- 100 mg/l
- Details on test conditions:
- Since the test sample is constituted by different hardly identifiable analytically components, it has been decided not to evaluate the stability of the test substance during the test.
Results and discussion
Effect concentrations
- Duration:
- 48 h
- Dose descriptor:
- EC50
- Effect conc.:
- > 100 mg/L
- Nominal / measured:

- Basis for effect:
- mortality
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The obtained results, in compliance with test acceptability criteria, showed that no immobilised Daphnie were observed with a concentration of 100 mg/L of the extract of the test substance CarboNeXT after 48 hours. The values of EC50 can be considered higher than 100 mg/L of the extract of the test substance.
