Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Administrative data
Link to relevant study record(s)
Description of key information
Short term toxicity test to aquatic invertebrate was estimated using OECD QSAR toolbox version 3.3 in Daphnia magna for 48 hours in freshwater . After prediction, the LC50 value was predicted to be 147.616073608 mg/L on the basis of intoxications.
Based on the result,4-aminoazobenzene-3,4'-disulphonic acid was predicted to be not toxic to aquatic invertebrates and can be considered as not classified chemical as per CLP regulation.

Additional information
From predicted studies for the target chemical 4-aminoazobenzene-3,4'-disulphonic acid along with its read across substance were reviewed to summarize the following information:
48 hrs aquatic toxicity study (EPI suite, 2016) was estimated to assess toxic effects of the test compound 4-aminoazobenzene-3,4'-disulphonic acid (CAS no 101-50-8) and the results were predicted. The study was based on the effects of the test compound on Daphnia magna in a static fresh water system. The predicted data suggests the lethal concentration (LC50) for the test compound 4-aminoazobenzene-3,4'-disulphonic acid was estimated to be147.616073608mg/L on the basis of mobility.
In a short term toxicity study,(M. St. J. Warneand A. D. Schifko )Ceriodaphnia dubia exposed to Tartrazine in the nominal concentration of 4932 to 6602 ug/L for 48 hours in semi-static fresh water condition. Test was conducted in five concentrations with triplicated. Immobilization, protease, lipase, a-amylase, and cellulase enzymes were examined and mortality was calculated from molecular weight. No Immobilization and 50 % mortality was observed at 5706.55 mg/l with 95% CL level 4932 - 6602mg/l. Therefore, EC50 was determined to be 5706.55 mg/l when Ceriodaphnia dubia exposed to Tartrazine for 48 hours.
Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates (GSBL web application) by Disodium 2-amino-5-[(4-sulphonatophenyl)azo]benzenesulphonate were performed on Daphnia Magna for 48 hrs at 1000 mg/l concentration. After experiment it was determined that the EC0 value for Disodium 2-amino-5-[(4-sulphonatophenyl)azo]benzenesulphonate (2706-28-7) to Daphnia magna was observed to be 1000 mg/l on the basis of mortality, immobilization and cell proliferation inhibition.
On the basis of results of various predictions and studies of read across for toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, it can be considered that the substance is not likely to be toxic to aquatic invertebrates at environmentally relevant concentrations and also can be classified as non- hazardous as per the criteria of CLP regulation.
