The photodegradation of the test substance in air by reaction with OH radicals was assessed by means of generally accepted calculation method and yielded very short half-life time of Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside in the atmosphere.Taking into account the very low vapour pressures and Henry's Law constants the substances will not be present in the gas phase of the atmosphere in appreciable amounts and therefore this elimination path is only of minor importance.

Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is readily biodegradable within 28 days in test performed according to OECD guideline 301D. At a concentration of 3.3 mg/L 89 % were degraded after 28 days by O2 consumption, at 2.3 mg/L 81 %, respectively. 

The results are supported by read across data to Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside. In the study according to OECD Guideline 301 B with activated sludge as inoculum, biodegradation of Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside reached approximately 76 % in 28 days. 

Based on these results it can be concluded, that the test substance will be effectively removed from the aquatic compartment. No supplementary degradation testing was considered as the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I did not indicate the need to investigate further the degradation of the substance.

As the substance Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is insoluble in water and is proved to be readily biodegradable, study on hydrolysis was not performed. For the same reasons and according to REACH Regulation (Annex IX, 9.3.2, column II), a test on bioaccumulation in aquatic species was not conducted.

Insolubility of the test substance, in connection with its readily biodegradability, lead to the conclusion, that Stearic acid, esters methyl α-D-glucoside is not biologically available in the aquatic compartment and it can be assumed that bioaccumulation in aquatic species is negligible.

In addition, readily biodegradable chemicals generally have a higher probability of being metabolised. In a case of ester fission the Stearic acid, esters methyl α-D-glucoside, consisting of α-methyl glucoside and fatty chains, is likely to be rapidly metabolised in organisms.

The experimental study on the adsorption/desorption to the read across substance Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is available. Based on the structural analogue approach to Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside, read across from Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is considered acceptable. The study yielded very log Koc value (>5.63) for source substance. This value is supported by calculation performed for the main components of Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside ranging between log Koc = 3.8 and log Koc = 17.4.

Based on these results and taking into account the classification of Blume & Ahlsdorf (1993), a high to very high sorption of Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside onto soil organic matter is to be expected.
