Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A reliable short-term toxicity study to aquatic invertebrates (reliability 2) with read-across substance Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is available. The 48 h-EC50 of Daphina magna was determined to be > 100 mg/L (nominal, limit test) in a study performed according to OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test).

Additional information

Based on the structural analogue approach to Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside read across from Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is considered acceptable.

The structural analogue approach is scientifically justified by close similarities with regard to structural aspects and physico-chemical, environmental toxicological as well as toxicological properties.

With regard to Physical and chemical properties this approach is based on meting and boiling tests, vapour pressure studies and water solubility studies. Similar environmental toxicological properties were observed in standard biodegradation studies and studies on toxicity to microorganisms. Furthermore, comparable data on Acute Oral Toxicity in rats can be considered.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The 48–hr-acute toxicity study with Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside conducted according to OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test) is available. Under static conditions Daphnia magna were exposed to control, reference substance (potassium dichromate) and the test chemical at a loading rate of 100 mg/L (limit test) for 48 h. Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside could not be completely dissolved in the test medium at the loading rate tested because the water solubility was visually assessed to be less than 1 mg/L. No analytical control was performed. Immobilization was observed after 24 and 48 h.

The 24 h EC50was > 100 mg/L (nominal, limit test)
