TREATMENT OF TEST MATERIAL PRIOR TO TESTING
The particle size distribution was initially examined using sieve analysis. In duplicate.
A portion (10 g) of the test substance was weighed into the coarset of a nest of sieves of aperture sizes 400, 125, 75, 30 and 10 microns. The nest was shaken for 30 minutes with tapping.
0.2% by weight had a particle size of > 400 μm
1.0% by weight had a particle size of 400 - 125 μm
6.5% by weight had a particle size of 125 - 75 μm
90.6% by weight had a particle size of 75 - 30 μm
1.9% by weight had a particle size of 30 - 10 μm
0% by weight had a particle size of <10 μm
The fraction with a particle size below 75 μm was examined by image analysis.

Conclusions:
Sieve analysis showed that 90.6% by weight had a particle size below 75 μm. This fraction was examined using image analysis based on BS3406, Part 4, 1993: 15.6% by weight had a particle size of 60 - 105 μm; 63.4% by weight had a particle size of 30 - 60 μm; 20.3% by weight had a particle size of 10.4 - 30 μm; 0.6% by weight had a particle size of 0.5 - 10.4 μm
