EQUIPMENT
- Apparatus: Agilent 1200 Series Liquid Chromatograph
- Type, material and dimension of analytical (guard) column: HyperClone CN (CPS) (25 cm x 4.6 mm internal diameter)
- Detection system: UV set at 210 nm

MOBILE PHASES
- Type: Acetonitrile:water (55:45 v/v)
- Flow rate: 1.0 mL/minute
- Injection volume: 20 uL

DETERMINATION OF DEAD TIME
- Method: An internal standard (formamide) with no retention on the HPLC column was used to determine the deadtime of the HPLC system.

REFERENCE SUBSTANCES
- Identity: Acetanilide, Nitrobenzene, Naphthalene, 2-Methylnaphthalene, Anthracene, DDT

REPETITIONS
- Number of determinations: 2

EVALUATION
- Calculation of capacity factors k': The adsorption coefficient is deduced from the capacity factor (k) given by: k = (tr-t0)/t0, where tr is the measured retention time of sample or reference and t0 is the retention time of the internal deadtime standard.
- Determination of the log Koc value: The log10Koc value was determined by interpolation.

25 °C
Details on results (HPLC method):
- Retention times of reference substances used for calibration: Acetanilide: 3.352 and 3.351 mins, Nitrobenzene: 4.122 and 4.121 mins, Naphthalene: 4.807 and 4.806 mins, 2-Methylnaphthalene: 5.105 and 5.104 mins, Anthracene: 5.694 and 5.693 mins, DDT: 8.550 and 8.550 mins
- Average retention data for test substance: 4.397 mins
Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
The test substance was found to have a log10Koc value of 3.0 at 25 ºC.
Executive summary:

The adsorption coefficient of BMI was determined using the HPLC method according to EC C.19, OECD 121, and GLP principles. The log10Koc value was determined to be 3.0 (equivalent Koc value of 970) at 25 ºC.

Description of key information

The log Koc of the substance was determined to be 3.0.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Koc at 20 °C:
970

Additional information

A soil adsorption coefficient study was conducted in compliance with GLP and the soil adsorption coefficient determination and was performed according to OECD test guideline 121 and EC method C.19. The soil adsorption coefficient was determined by the HPLC method. The soil adsorption coefficient of BMI was determined to be log Koc: 3.0 (equivalent Koc: 970) at 25ºC. The Koc is 1000 at 20°C. The result indicated that BMI is likely to have a high mobility in soil.
